Description
The Puning Temple is located in the city of Chengde in China’s Hebei province northeast of Beijing, which was established by Qing-dynasty emperor Kangxi as the imperial summer residence. The building was elegantly constructed in the 18th century and is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Commonly called the Big Buddha Temple, the Puning Temple, was built from the model of the Sanmoye Temple in Tibet, and blends the Tibetan and Han construction styles, which are broad in scope and magnificent in style. The Avalokitesvara inside the temple, with a thousand hands and thousand eyes, is one of the largest existing wood-carved Buddha statues in the world.
