Description
Of all the birds of prey in North America, eagles rank as one of the very largest. At close range, the eagle looks courageous and fierce. But, whether viewing the bird from close up or at a distance, it is indeed a graceful spectacle. Soaring on broad wings, the eagle makes flight look effortless and, as a result, long ago became a poignant symbol of freedom. Despite their large size and fearsome appearance, eagles are careful to avoid danger. They are afraid of man and will usually attack him only if their nests are threatened.
